Let's answer all your questions!

Everything you need to know for your fly fishing adventure in Greenland – from gear tips to what you can expect to catch. If you can’t find your answer here, feel free to reach out to us anytime!

What makes Greenland such a great destination for deep-sea fishing?

Greenland offers some of the richest, most untouched fishing waters in the world. The combination of cold, nutrient-rich currents and minimal commercial fishing pressure means these waters are full of life. The sheer variety of species—halibut, redfish, cod, and wolffish—ensures an exciting and unpredictable fishing experience. Plus, the remote Arctic scenery makes every moment on the water unforgettable.

Do I need prior deep-sea fishing experience to join this expedition?

You don’t need prior experience at all!. This expedition is designed for both seasoned anglers and those new to deep-sea fishing. Our expert guides will teach you everything you need to know, from handling the gear to fighting some of the Arctic’s strongest fish. Whether you’re here to land your first big catch or to challenge yourself against Greenland’s deep-sea giants, this trip is for you.

Will I be fishing in both fjords and the open sea?

All fishing takes place in the fjords close to Nuuk. These deep, nutrient-rich waters offer excellent fishing for halibut, cod, redfish, and wolffish without the challenges of open-sea conditions. The fjords provide a stunning, sheltered environment with breathtaking Arctic scenery while still offering the chance to catch some of Greenland’s biggest fish.

Can I keep the fish I catch?

Mostly, we practice catch and release to help maintain the health of Greenland’s fish populations. We never bring home more than we can eat. If you’d like to keep some of the fish for a fresh meal, we have arrangements with the hotel restaurant. Bring your fresh catch back to Nuuk, and th chef will prepare it for you.

Is all the fishing gear provided, or should I bring my own?

All top-tier fishing gear is provided, including quality rods, reels, and tackle specifically suited for catching halibut, cod, redfish, and wolffish. You’re welcome to bring your own equipment if you have a preferred setup, but it’s not necessary—we ensure you have everything you need for a successful trip.

Is this expedition available year-round?

Yes! This tour runs almost all year because Greenland’s waters are teeming with fish in every season. Whether it’s summer or winter, there’s always a good chance of reeling in an Arctic catch. However, weather and ice conditions can sometimes affect availability, especially in the coldest months.

Contact us to check availability for your preferred dates and explore the best fishing opportunities for each season.

‍

What should I pack for a deep sea fishing trip?

Greenland’s weather can change rapidly, so dressing properly is key. We recommend bringing:

  • A waterproof and windproof jacket
  • Warm, layered clothing (wool or fleece works best)
  • Insulated gloves and a hat
  • Sturdy, waterproof boots with good grip
  • Sunglasses to reduce glare from the water
  • A small backpack for personal items
  • Motion sickness tablets if you’re prone to seasickness

All fishing equipment is provided, but if you have a lucky lure or a favorite reel, feel free to bring it along.

‍

What does a typical day on this deep sea fishing trip look like?

Mornings start with a hearty breakfast in Nuuk before heading to the boat. After a safety briefing and gear setup, we set out into Greenland’s vast waters, heading to prime fishing locations based on conditions. Once lines are in the water, the action begins—whether it’s the slow, steady pull of a halibut from the depths or the sudden strike of a cod.

After hours of fishing, we take a break for lunch on board, enjoying the Arctic scenery. The afternoon brings more fishing as we change spots and target different species. By evening, we return to Nuuk, where you can relax, share stories, and enjoy a well-earned dinner before the next day’s adventure.

‍

How physically demanding is deep-sea fishing in Greenland?

This trip requires moderate physical effort, but nothing extreme. While reeling in a large halibut or wolffish can be a serious workout, much of the fishing is done from the boat, so no heavy lifting or trekking is required. If you can stand and hold a rod for extended periods, you’ll do just fine. Our guides are there to assist, making sure every angler is comfortable throughout the trip.
