Towering icebergs, deep silence, and the slow rhythm of drifting ice. This six-hour cruise takes you deep into Nuuk's fjord system, where glaciers calve into the sea and the water turns brilliant blue around the shapes that float on it.
The route leaves the city behind in the first ten minutes, threading past Sermitsiaq's wall of granite and into the deep, narrow inner fjord that few visitors ever see.
Guided from the deck of our heated Targa, you'll feel the air change as the city falls behind. Among the icebergs, we slow the boat and let the fjord do the talking, the crack of bergs shifting, the deep cold radiating off the ice, and the kind of quiet that's hard to find anywhere else.
Towering bergs, glassy water, and the long Arctic quiet of the Icefjord. We sail out, slow down, and let the fjord carry the day, past calving fronts, deep coves, and ice older than most countries. Book your seat below.

Our Targa boats provide optimal viewing both from the heated cabin and the spacious open deck, showing you where light passes through the icebergs and reveals their full range of blues.

Pieces of ice broken from a passing berg find their way into your glass - a true on-the-rocks moment.
Six hours into Nuuk's inner fjord, where the city drops away in the first fifteen minutes and the water slowly fills with drifting ice.
We pass the granite wall of Sermitsiaq and the abandoned settlement of Qoornoq on the way to the glacier wall, then cut the engine among the icebergs and let it go quiet.
The bergs come in every shade the ice can hold, from white to deep blue. The return runs slower and calmer, the same fjord in changed light.

The deep blue bergs are some of the oldest. Over thousands of years the weight of the ice sheet presses the air out of the snow until the ice is dense and clear, and dense ice absorbs almost everything in the light except blue.
The white, frothy pieces are younger and still full of trapped air. The ice we drop in your glass at the turnaround comes from the same sheet, and it can be older than almost anything else you touch that day.
Everything you need to know about this tour — from key details to what you can expect during the experience. If you can’t find your answer here, we’re always here to help.
Yes! We operate this tour in all seasons, but the experience changes throughout the year. In summer, the midnight sun bathes the ice in golden light, creating an almost surreal atmosphere. In winter, the fjord transforms into a world of deep blue ice, snow-covered peaks, and the possibility of seeing the northern lights on late departures. No matter when you go, the icefjord is always spectacular.
Greenland has many icefjords, but what makes Nuuk special is its accessibility and untouched beauty. Unlike the more famous Ilulissat Icefjord, which is often crowded with visitors, Nuuk’s icefjord is far more remote. This means fewer boats, more silence, and an almost meditative experience as you drift through the ice. The fjord also has a mix of massive icebergs and smaller, crystal-clear pieces that you can touch and even taste when we serve drinks chilled with glacial ice.
We get as close as safely possible. Icebergs can be unpredictable, as they shift and break apart without warning, so we always maintain a safe distance. That said, you’ll still feel their immense presence as they tower above the water, some the size of buildings. You’ll hear the ice crack and shift, reminding you that these ancient formations are constantly evolving.
There’s always a chance to see wildlife in the fjord. You might spot a seal lounging on a drifting iceberg, completely unfazed by our presence, or catch a glimpse of a white-tailed eagle soaring between the cliffs. In summer, Arctic terns and other seabirds dive for fish in the open water. Occasionally, a whale might surface in the distance, sending a misty breath into the cold Arctic air. Every trip is different, and that’s part of the magic.
The icefjord is stunning year-round, but each season offers something unique. Summer (June–September) brings long days, golden light, and the biggest icebergs drifting out from the glacier. Winter (October–April) offers a more dramatic landscape, with ice-choked waters, snow-covered mountains, and the chance to see the northern lights on evening departures. There’s no bad time to visit—it just depends on what kind of Arctic experience you’re looking for.
The tour lasts around six hours. We depart from Nuuk Harbor and sail through the fjord, stopping first at the Sermitsiaq waterfall, a stunning cascade dropping from the cliffs. From there, we continue deeper into the fjord until we reach the icefjord, where we slow down and take in the breathtaking scenery. After spending time among the ice, we pause for a quiet moment, serving a cold drink with ancient glacier ice before making our way back to Nuuk.
Yes, this is a family-friendly experience. The boat has a heated cabin and an onboard restroom, making the trip comfortable for children. The slow, scenic pace of the cruise is ideal for all ages, and the towering icebergs often make a big impression. We recommend dressing children warmly, as they will most likely want to step outside on deck to take in the views.
Even in summer, Arctic waters can be chilly. We recommend:
Our boat has a heated cabin, but you’ll want to step outside to fully experience the icefjord.
This tour is entirely boat-based. For safety reasons, we do not step on the icebergs. However, we get as close as safely possible, giving you an incredible view of the towering ice formations. If you’re looking for an experience where you can step on land and see the ice from the shore, check out our Icefjord Bay Adventure or Create Your Own Adventure for a customized trip. Let us know what you’re looking for, and we’ll help plan the perfect Arctic experience.
Yes! Icebergs are always present in Ice Fjord, as they break off from the Greenland Ice Sheet at the fjord’s far end and drift toward the open waters. Sometimes, you’ll see them floating right outside Nuuk, while other times, we sail further into the fjord to spot them. No two icebergs are alike, making every trip a unique experience.
