Explore Greenland's fjords with our local crew

Our captains and crew grew up navigating the waters around Nuuk, and that local knowledge shapes every trip. They know where the whales surface, which fjord arm catches the calmest light, and how to read shifting Arctic conditions, so you can simply sit back and take it in. From a short scenic cruise to a full-day expedition deep into the fjord, every journey is comfortable, safe, and built around what you want to see.

Boat tours in Greenland, where the coastline is the road

With almost no roads between towns, Greenland is a country best discovered by water. From the iceberg-filled fjords of the west coast to the quiet settlements scattered along the shore, a boat is your way into landscapes nothing else can reach. Raw Arctic guides you across these Arctic waters, getting you close to the glaciers, wildlife, and wild places that make a trip to Greenland unforgettable.

Icefjord, sail among icebergs the size of buildings

Greenland's icefjords are the country's signature sight, none more famous than the UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Icefjord, where the ice sheet calves giant bergs straight into the sea. By boat you draw up close to glacier fronts and drift through floating ice in every shade of blue and white. It is the Greenland boat tour that captures the raw scale of the Arctic up close.

Cold Plunge, the fjord's most exhilarating ritual

Drop anchor in a sheltered bay and take the plunge into crystal-clear Arctic water, an unforgettable rush followed by the deep calm only a cold dip delivers. Optional and always guided, these stops let you warm up aboard afterward with the fjord all around you. It is wellness, Greenland style, raw, refreshing, and completely alive.

Wildlife, meet the giants of the deep

Greenland's waters teem with life through the summer, and a boat is the best seat in the house. Watch humpback and minke whales feed in the fjords (Disko Bay ranks among the world's great whale-watching grounds), spot sea eagles on the cliffs, and find seals hauled out on the rocks. With a guide reading the water beside you, every trip becomes a wildlife encounter.

Settlements, life along the Arctic coast

Scattered along Greenland's shore are tiny communities reachable only by sea, where daily life still follows the rhythm of the water. Step ashore in places like Ilimanaq, Oqaatsut, or Kapisillit, meet the people who call the coast home, and glimpse a side of Greenland most travelers never see. These cultural stops give a day on the water real depth.

Northern Lights, chase the aurora across open water

From autumn into spring, head out under dark Arctic skies to watch the northern lights ripple above the water, far from any town glow. With the open sea reflecting the green and the mountains in silhouette, the aurora feels even more immense from the deck of a boat. Warm gear and hot drinks aboard keep the cold at bay while you watch the sky come alive.

Sail Greenland, where untamed beauty unfolds before your eyes

From the water is the truest way to take in Greenland. As you sail, the coast opens into deep fjords, calving glaciers, drifting icebergs, and remote settlements few ever reach. Whether you have a couple of hours for a scenic cruise or a full day for a longer expedition, our local captains shape every trip around the conditions and what you most want to see. Sit back on deck, feel the Arctic air, and let the scale of it all sink in.

What our guests say:

"I chartered a Raw Arctic boat for six weeks for a biological study in the Nuuk area and it was a very successful and amazing experience. The captain and crew were outstanding and all the support provided was excellent, including scheduling, boat operation, navigation, assistance completing the actual biological work, knowledge of the area, safety, and all other aspects of the work. I have conducted biological studies in many areas of the world and used a wide variety of support services, and I can say that the experience with Raw Arctic was the best. In addition to the work, I think that the friendships that I made with the Raw Arctic team will last a very long time."

"Raw Arctic gave us absolutely amazing 10-days trip in Greenland. They’ve organised everything from the pick up at the airport through hunting, boat sailing, hiking, etc. They were also extremely helpful when our schedule got derailed because of unpredictable internal flights. They did it all with easiness, laughs, positive attitude and good energy. Special thanks to Isak and Salik for making this experience so flawless and unforgettable!"

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before you set sail on a Greenland boat tour, from what you'll see to what to wear on deck. If you can't find your answer here, feel free to reach out to us anytime.

What exactly is a “custom” tour with Raw Arctic?

Every itinerary is built from scratch around the dates, interests, group size, and budget you give us. Whether you want a two-hour scenic cruise, a full day exploring the Icefjord, or a multi-stop journey combining whale watching, glaciers, and a remote settlement, our planners and local guides shape the route, pace, and stops so the trip is unmistakably yours. There are no off-the-shelf templates, just a boat tour designed around what you most want to experience.

What will I see on a Greenland boat tour?

It depends on the route and season, but most trips take in a rich mix of Arctic scenery and wildlife. Expect towering icebergs and calving glaciers, deep fjords framed by snow-capped peaks, and the chance to spot humpback, minke, and fin whales, plus seals and seabirds like puffins, terns, and white-tailed eagles. Some routes call at remote coastal settlements such as Kapisillit, where colourful houses offer a glimpse of Greenlandic life. Your captain knows where the wildlife tends to gather and adjusts the route on the day to give you the best possible views.

Do I need any sailing or boating experience?

Not at all. Every trip is run by experienced local captains and crew, so all you need to do is step aboard and enjoy the journey. Whether you are a seasoned sailor or have never been on a boat before, you will be in safe, capable hands from the moment you leave the harbour. Each trip begins with a short safety briefing, and the crew are on hand throughout to help with anything you need.

How many guests are on board?

It varies by vessel and the type of tour you choose. Our Targa 37+ carries up to 12 guests in comfort, which makes it ideal for families, groups of friends, and cruise ship excursions, while smaller private charters offer a more intimate experience for couples or small parties. Whatever the size, we keep things relaxed and personal, with room to move around the deck and take in the views from every angle. If you would like a private departure for just your group, let us know and we will arrange it.

What are the boats like, and are they comfortable?

We operate modern Targa vessels, built for Arctic waters and maintained to high standards. They offer a heated indoor cabin where you can warm up and shelter from the wind, along with open deck space for photography and wildlife viewing. The boats are stable, fast, and well equipped, so you can reach remote parts of the fjord in comfort and return the same day. On longer trips, the crew will let you know what is available on board so you can plan what to bring.

We're arriving by cruise ship. Can we fit a tour in our port time?

Yes, and we run tours designed specifically for cruise guests. Our compact two-hour Nuuk Fjord cruise is built to fit comfortably within a typical port call, giving you an immersive taste of dramatic Arctic scenery just minutes from the harbour. If you have more time ashore, we can put together a longer itinerary to match your schedule. Just send us your ship's arrival and departure times and we will recommend the right option and make sure you are back on board with time to spare.

What is your cancellation policy?

Because Arctic weather can change quickly, safety always comes first, and we may occasionally reschedule or adjust a trip if conditions require it. If we cancel a departure for safety reasons, we will work with you to rebook or arrange a refund. For guest-initiated cancellations, the specific terms and timelines are set out in your booking confirmation, so we recommend reviewing those when you book. If you have any questions about a particular date or trip, reach out and we will walk you through it.

Plan your Greenland boat adventure

Tell us what you want to see and how much time you have, and we will shape the route to match, from a two-hour scenic cruise to a full day deep in the fjord. Our local captains and crew handle the planning, logistics, and safety, so all you have to do is step aboard and take it in.
