A two-hour cruise into the rising light

Some of the best light in Greenland comes before most people are awake. On Arctic Sunrise, we head out from Nuuk while the fjord is still quiet, and watch the first light spread across the mountains, their snow covered peaks and water.

Depending on the season and conditions, the sky can shift from deep blue to pink and gold in a matter of minutes, and the mountains light up one peak at a time. The boat has a heated cabin, so you can step inside to warm up whenever you like, and coffee, tea, water and cookies are on board. It's a relaxed, unhurried way to see the fjord and a great option for photographers, early risers, or anyone who wants a quiet moment on the water before the day begins.

What our guests say

"I was in Nuuk for a week and took 2 trips with the Raw Arctic team with 2 different boats : 1 whale watching tour & 1 fish and dish trip. Both were amazing. The boats are top quality. The crews are young reliable and fun local fellows. I saw a humpback whale very close each time. The fishing was fun and easy, we caught so many. The restaurant at the end of the fjord (not the universe ;) - Qooqut - is lovely and they cooked our catch so well. In a nutshell, I highly recommend the experience, it’s worth the money. Cheers !"

"We managed to book a private boat trip to Nuuk Fjords when no group trips were available. Raw Arctic was very responsive on the phone which I appreciated, especially as we were short on time. We had a trip with Isak and Marcus and they were great, talking about living in Greenland, sharing their experience - I enjoyed their different point of view. Trip itself was beautiful with all the fjords around and drinking from a waterfall. The boat looked new, modern and was comfortable, we couldn’t ask for more. Also, Ballerina cookies ❤️ Thank you!"

"Meegwetch/Thank you for a great adventure, the best excursion I have ever had. Isak and Anita are very Knowledgeable, experienced and accommodating, shows how much they love what they do. They went above and beyond to get us to the airport to catch our flight since taxis can be challenging at times. If I ever go back to Nuuk, I will definitely use this company for excursions. "

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about this tour — from key details to what you can expect during the experience. If you can’t find your answer here, we’re always here to help.

What should I wear, and how cold is the water?

The water stays cold right through the summer, so cold-water gear and layers underneath are the norm. The air coming off the ice tends to run cooler than the forecast, and days on the water often break on a remote beach where you can step out of the kayak, warm up, and watch the bergs from land.
