Five private days photographing the wild heart of Greenland

Greenland is one of the last untouched ecosystems on Earth, where wildlife moves freely across mountains, fjords, islands, and open sea.

With direct access to Nuuk Fjord, one of the world's largest fjord systems, Raw Arctic offers private, custom-built expeditions for those who want to photograph whales, reindeer, eagles, seals, and Arctic light entirely on its own terms. Every encounter is unscripted.

Every expedition is built around you.

What our guests say

"I chartered a Raw Arctic boat for six weeks for a biological study in the Nuuk area and it was a very successful and amazing experience. The captain and crew were outstanding and all the support provided was excellent, including scheduling, boat operation, navigation, assistance completing the actual biological work, knowledge of the area, safety, and all other aspects of the work. I have conducted biological studies in many areas of the world and used a wide variety of support services, and I can say that the experience with Raw Arctic was the best. In addition to the work, I think that the friendships that I made with the Raw Arctic team will last a very long time."

"the experience with the captains and guides of raw arctic was outstanding. i was on an excursion every day from 8:30 or 9:00 until 4:00-4:30 for two weeks. they were thoughtful, daily trips were well planned, and were adventures climbing the hills of the fjords for me to photograph carabou. as we traveled on the water i was fortunate to capture a whale breaching. in addition, because the captains and guides paced the day well, i was able to photograph an iceberg through another iceberg. i appreciated what casper suggested to pack and i virtually used everything. the small boat and bathroom was spotless each day. drinks were available. as someone who was 86 years old the guides left it up to me to determine the level of difficulty in climbing the hills or or going across the streams. as i am in excellent condition this consideration was optimal. i recommend raw arctic without reservation"

"I booked the Whale Safari Tour and our great captain spotted one, it was « merveilleux ». The crew was really nice, telling stories, answering our thousands questions. The ride lasted one hour from Nuuk, the mountains reflecting to the « mirror » sea was unreal. Everything was super safe as well. Thank you !!!"

"The small boat makes for an intimate and connected experience that you just won’t get from a larger tour boat. The crew were an absolute delight; friendly, engaged and deeply connected to the place. They shored openly about their experience living on the land and sea here and all that they have grown to love about it. My wife and I own and run a boat charter business, so for the past decade we have had lots of experience. These folks are doing a really good thing and I can’t recommended it enough. It is an unforgettable experience and I will remember, on all my future trips to this beautiful country, that this was the experience where I fell in love with Greenland."

A typical itinerary for your private wildlife expedition

Each expedition is custom-built around your priorities, this is the shape a typical five-day shoot tends to take.

Settle in and plan the shoot

On arrival, you'll be greeted by our team and transferred to your hotel. Use the afternoon to unpack gear, charge batteries, and rest.

In the evening, sit down with your guide for a planning session, what you most want to photograph, light conditions you're chasing, and how we'll shape the days ahead.

First day on the water

After breakfast, we board the closed Targa and head into Nuuk Fjord. The first day is about reading the conditions, wind, light, where the wildlife is moving, and building a working plan for the rest of the week.

Expect first encounters with seals, eagles, and possibly a humpback or two surfacing in the still waters of the fjord system.

Photograph the wild heart of Greenland

Three full days built entirely around what you came to capture. Possibilities include:

  • Humpback whales surfacing in Nuuk Fjord, most active from summer into autumn
  • White-tailed eagles along the cliffs and shorelines
  • Reindeer on the open slopes and tundra above the fjord
  • Seals lounging on icebergs
  • Atlantic puffins fishing for capelin

Days are paced to weather and animal activity, not the clock. Your guide knows where to be, when.

One last morning in the fjord

The final morning is yours, a last shoot in the location that's been most productive, or a slow ride back capturing the light along the way.

Back in Nuuk, settle into the hotel for a relaxed evening: review your work, back up files, and share a final dinner in town.

Carry your story home

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Nuuk Airport for your return flight. You'll leave with cards full of frames and the rare experience of having photographed Greenland on its own terms.
