Camp Isua offers a fly fishing experience unlike anything else in the world. Nestled deep within Greenland’s pristine wilderness, this remote haven provides unparalleled access to untouched rivers, where the fishing pressure is nearly nonexistent. Each season, we welcome a maximum of eight guests per week, ensuring optimal conditions and an intimate connection with nature. Here, you’ll cast your line into waters that have remained undisturbed for centuries, embracing the raw beauty and solitude that only a place like Camp Isua can provide.
Arrival in Nuuk / Camp Isua
Upon your arrival in Nuuk, our team will greet you and take you to a local hotel, where you can relax and prepare for the next part of your journey.
You will then travel by boat to Grædefjorden in a spacious vessel with plenty of room for both you and your luggage. As we sail south along Greenland’s west coast, you’ll witness breathtaking scenery — towering mountains, vast fjords, and the river mouths of the three systems you’ll soon be fishing in.
When we reach Camp Isua, you’ll find yourself deep within Grædefjorden, surrounded by a striking valley. Here, you can breathe in the crisp scent of Arctic nature and hear the gentle flow of the Isua River winding through the landscape.
Upon arrival, we’ll transfer you and your luggage to shore using a small rubber boat. From there, it’s a short 400–500-meter walk up to the camp — we’ll, of course, assist with carrying your gear.
At camp, you’ll be welcomed and assigned your own tent. You’ll have time to unpack and get comfortable before receiving a guided tour of the facilities. The day concludes with a safety briefing to ensure a secure and enjoyable stay at Camp Isua and in the surrounding wilderness.
Each morning begins with a short briefing on the day’s program before we head out to explore one of the nearby rivers.
“The Isua River”
The Isua River stretches roughly ten kilometers through a dramatic valley flanked by steep mountains. The river holds only one species — the wild Arctic char — thriving in its cold, crystal-clear currents.
Fishing along the Isua River requires good physical condition, as the terrain can be demanding and, at times, extreme. While there are several fishing spots along the way, those who venture farther upriver are rewarded with the most spectacular experiences. The route winds through shrubs, boulders, and uneven ground, testing both endurance and casting skills.
The hike to the famous pool “Steps” begins with a steep one-kilometer climb up a moraine ridge, passing three small saddle-shaped valleys — lush green oases beneath towering cliffs nearly a kilometer high.
Waders aren’t needed at first, but further into the valley you’ll need to cross the river to reach the prime pools. The descent from the ridge can be challenging, but a fixed rope provides safe passage. The lower pools near the base often hold good numbers of fish and are ideal for anglers who prefer a shorter hike.
Beyond this, the landscape flattens out, dotted with shrubs and large boulders. Occasionally, the mountain walls press close to the river, and small rockfalls can occur — a reminder to move carefully and respect nature’s raw power.
“Eqaluit River”
Eqaluit is a network of dark, crystal-clear lakes connected by a fast-flowing two-to-three-kilometer river. The water rushes over moss-covered stones, home to large, powerful Arctic char. The dark water mirrors the sky and cliffs, making it difficult to spot the fish beneath the surface. The surrounding terrain is rugged — steep cliffs, fascinating rock formations, and clean, crisp air that humbles every visitor.
We start our journey early in the morning, packing lunch and setting out in our Poca 600 boat through the still waters of the fjord. The one-hour ride westward offers dramatic views — towering cliffs reflecting perfectly in the glassy surface of the water under a vast, untouched sky.
Upon arrival, we secure the boat to a buoy and pull ourselves ashore using a line. From there, a short but steep climb awaits over rocky terrain. At the top, an incredible view opens up — sharp peaks, open blue skies, and cliffs rising straight from the landscape.
We then descend toward the river, where everyone can participate regardless of fitness level. Following reindeer tracks, we reach the deep pools hidden within this pristine wilderness.
“Tasiusaq River”
Deep within Greenland’s mountain wilderness lies Tasiusaq — a place of raw, untouched beauty. Here, turquoise glacial lakes meet fast-flowing rivers, surrounded by silent peaks shaped by ice and time.
The Tasiusaq River is short — only about 500 meters — but it holds a unique and stunning character. Flowing through a narrow valley beneath towering cliffs and a waterfall, the river forms natural fish ladders leading to a crystal-blue lake where Arctic char spawn in winter. Another small stream branches off from the lake into the lower section — a place yet to be fully explored, offering the chance to fish untouched waters.
When traveling to Tasiusaq, we again use our Poca 600 to navigate a narrow fjord with bright blue water and steep mountainsides. We often stop in a shallow bay to fish for cod on the fly for dinner before continuing ashore. A short hike through the rugged landscape brings us to the river — clear, cold, and full of life.
In Tasiusaq, everything remains as nature intended — pure, authentic, and untouched. Fly fishing here isn’t just about catching fish; it’s about connecting with Greenland’s wild soul — surrounded by silence, mountains, and the clearest water imaginable.

Let's answer all your questions!
Everything you need to know for your fly fishing adventure in Greenland – from gear tips to what you can expect to catch. If you can’t find your answer here, feel free to reach out to us anytime!
Will I have the opportunity to fish all three rivers during the fly fishing trip?
Yes, the itinerary is designed to give anglers access to all three rivers—Isua, Eqaluit, and Ilivertallip Kuua—each offering a different style of fishing. Mornings begin with a briefing and boat transfer to the chosen river for the day. If you prefer to stay close to camp, the Isua River flows right past your tent and can be fished anytime.
What sets Three Rivers at Camp Isua apart from other remote fly fishing destinations?
Three Rivers at Camp Isua offers something truly unique—three separate rivers to fish, allowing us to rotate between them to keep the waters fresh and the char aggressive throughout the entire season. This ensures that anglers always have access to prime, undisturbed fishing, with new opportunities every day. Unlike other remote destinations that focus on just one river, we offer variety, flexibility, and a more dynamic fishing experience.
While the camp is deep in the Arctic wilderness, it’s still only a four-hour boat ride from Nuuk, making it both remote and accessible. There are no roads, no crowds, and no competition for the best fishing spots—just wild, untouched waters where the char have rarely seen a fly. With a maximum of eight guests per week, Camp Isua offers the perfect balance between exclusivity and adventure, giving each angler the space and freedom to fish in one of the most untouched environments on Earth.
How many rods are allowed on the river at a time?
To maintain an exclusive and high-quality fishing experience, we limit each week to a maximum of eight anglers. With three separate rivers to choose from, we can divide guests into smaller groups, ensuring that every angler has access to fresh, undisturbed water each day.
While all three rivers can technically be fished at the same time, we prefer to rotate between two rivers each day. This relieves fishing pressure on at least one river at all times, ensuring a pristine, well-rested fishery throughout the entire season. By carefully managing how and when each river is fished, we maximize the quality of the experience, keeping the Arctic char aggressive and willing to take a fly from the first cast to the last.
What are the accommodations and camp setup like during the Flyfishing trip?
Guests will stay in spacious, heated canvas tents, each shared between two anglers, providing comfortable beds and plenty of room to store gear and relax after long days on the river. The tents are decorated minimalistically but cozy, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere in the heart of the wilderness.
The camp is designed to offer both comfort and authenticity, balancing the raw beauty of the Arctic with a high standard of living in a remote environment. Meals are prepared by our chef and served in the communal dining tent, where anglers gather to share stories over expertly cooked Greenlandic cuisine.
Despite being deep in the wilderness, the camp is well-equipped with running water in the main tent, a limited amount of electricity available for charging phones and small devices, and two separate toilet facilities for convenience.
For those looking to unwind, there’s an outdoor sauna tent, available once or twice during the stay, providing the perfect way to relax and soak in the silence of the Arctic tundra after a full day on the water.
How does each river fish differently in terms of structure, flow, and char behavior?
Each of the three rivers at Camp Isua offers a completely unique experience, catering to different styles of fly fishing and levels of exploration.
The Isua River stretches for more than 10 kilometers, holding char throughout its entire length. It’s a mix of glacial and meltwater, giving it a striking turquoise-blue color that remains crystal clear. This river is for the angler who loves exploration—the further upriver you go, the fewer people have ever fished those waters. With deep runs, strong currents, and hidden pools, you could easily spend an entire week just unlocking the secrets of this one river.
The Eqaluit River is made for fly fishing perfection. The ideal width, steady pace, and structured runs provide an unmatched casting experience. The fish hold in well-defined pockets, making sight-fishing incredibly effective. The easy terrain allows you to focus entirely on the fishing, and once you reach the first lake, the scenery opens up into a breathtaking Arctic landscape.
Ilivertallip Kuua River stands apart from the others with its larger pools and deep, steady currents. This river offers a different kind of fly fishing—long, controlled drifts over slow-moving, glassy water, where the fish hold deep and strike hard. The quietness here is unmatched, creating an almost surreal experience as you cast in complete silence, surrounded by endless Arctic tundra. The feeling of remoteness in this valley is unlike anything else, making it a favorite for those seeking a more meditative, undisturbed fishing experience.
What’s the ideal setup for targeting Arctic Char in these rivers?
A 5-7 weight fly rod is best suited for these waters, paired with floating and sink-tip lines for different river conditions. In the faster currents of Isua River, heavier streamers and nymphs work well, while in the gin-clear pools of Eqaluit and Ilivertallip Kuua, precision casting with dry flies or small nymphs can be highly effective. Foam flies provide heart-stopping topwater action when conditions allow.
Do you practice a catch-and-release policy?
Yes, we enforce a catch-and-release policy to preserve the Arctic char population and maintain the pristine nature of these remote rivers. Handling is done with care, and barbless hooks are recommended to ensure minimal stress on the fish.
That said, the Arctic char in these rivers are incredibly abundant, and harvesting a few fish does not impact the population. We take advantage of this by bringing some of the finest catches back to camp, where our chef prepares them into a truly luxurious yet outdoor dining experience. Freshly caught Arctic char, expertly cooked in the heart of the wilderness, is as authentic and unforgettable as it gets.
What can I expect from the food and dining experience at Camp Isua?
At Camp Isua, dining is an essential part of the experience. After a full day on the water, you’ll return to camp, where our chef prepares restaurant-quality meals with a strong focus on Greenlandic cuisine. Expect a menu featuring everything from reindeer, muskox, Greenlandic shrimp, fish, and local birds, bringing you closer to the land and its traditions.
One of the highlights is the fresh Arctic char, caught during the trip and prepared by our chef back at camp. Whether grilled or pan-seared, it’s a perfect blend of luxury and wilderness—fresh, wild, and expertly cooked.
While the camp is remote, we make sure you eat well. From hot breakfasts and trail lunches to hearty, multi-course dinners, every meal is designed to fuel your adventure while giving you a true taste of Greenland’s rich culinary heritage. Meals are enjoyed together in the communal dining tent, where you can unwind, share stories, and take in the Arctic silence with a full stomach and a satisfied mind.
Is this flyfishing trip suited for seasoned fly anglers, or can beginners join as well?
This expedition is designed for both experienced fly anglers and those new to Arctic char fishing. The rivers offer a range of technical challenges, from swift currents to slow, clear pools, making it an exciting experience for any skill level. Our guides are seasoned experts who can help refine techniques for advanced anglers or introduce fundamentals to those new to the sport.
How physically demanding is the fishing at Camp Isua?
The fishing at Camp Isua is accessible to most anglers, but the level of physical demand varies between the rivers.
The Isua River can be fairly technical, especially as you move further upriver. Some sections require river crossings and following specific paths to reach the best pools, but our guides know the routes and will ensure a safe and efficient approach.
The Eqaluit River and Ilivertallip Kuua are exceptionally easy to navigate, with minimal obstacles. The only real physical effort required is hiking upstream to explore new sections of the river, making them ideal for anglers who prefer a more relaxed wading experience.
Do I have to pay the full amount when booking?
To confirm your spot at Camp Isua, we require a deposit at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due before departure, with the exact payment schedule outlined in our booking terms. This ensures flexibility while securing your place on this exclusive expedition. If you have any questions about payment plans or terms, feel free to contact us.
Are flights included in the price?
No, flights to and from Nuuk are not included in the package. Our guests are responsible for booking their own airfare, although we are happy to help if there should be any questions regarding dates, schedules and so on. However, once you arrive in Nuuk, everything else is taken care of—including accommodations, transfers, guided fishing, meals at camp, and all excursions. The only additional expenses during your stay are dinners at Nuuk’s restaurants on arrival and departure days, giving you the chance to experience Greenland’s local dining scene before and after your time at Camp Isua.
Do I need to disinfect my flies before fishing in Greenland?
Yes! At Raw Arctic, it is a strict requirement that all customers clean and disinfect their flies and hooks before arriving in Greenland. This is essential to prevent the spread of bacteria and viruses that could be introduced from fish in other countries.
Greenland's waters are pristine, and we are committed to keeping them that way. Even microscopic contaminants from previously used fishing gear can pose a risk to the delicate ecosystem. By disinfecting your flies, you help protect Greenland’s wild fish populations and ensure a sustainable fly fishing experience for future generations.
How should I disinfect my flies and hooks?
To properly disinfect your flies and hooks:
- Use a disinfectant solution – Soak your flies in a mild antiseptic or a specialized fish-safe disinfectant.
- Rinse thoroughly with clean water – After disinfecting, make sure to rinse off any residue.
- Dry completely – Let your gear dry before packing to prevent rust or damage.
