Six days, four species across the Arctic winter

This is the hunt that pulls together everything the Nuuk region has to offer in the cold months, mountain, tundra, fjord and ice.

Over four full hunting days, you'll work the country for four very different animals: reindeer in the inland valleys, king eider on the open water of the fjord, rock ptarmigan in the snowbound highlands, and arctic hare across the white slopes between them.

Expert local guides, proper winter gear, warm meals on the move, and quiet evenings back in Nuuk. The Arctic Four is for hunters who want range, not repetition, four trophies, four habitats, one trip.

The arctic is a harsh landscape, yet its animals are remarkably adapted to it quietly enduring conditions that would test anything else.

The arctic tundra asks for resilience and for the right gear. We advise our hunters on what to bring, drawing on the experience of those who know the land best.

Welcome to the Arctic

On arrival in Nuuk, our team will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. Spend the afternoon checking gear or resting before the welcome briefing.

That evening, your guides walk you through the hunting plan, the four target species, reindeer, king eider, rock ptarmigan and arctic hare, the weather window, and safety on the land and water.

Day one: tracking reindeer

An early start. We head inland by boat, depending on conditions, we head into the valleys in the Nuuk fjord where reindeer winter on the lichen flats.

Your guide reads the country, wind, light, sign in the snow, and works you into position. A patient, traditional hunt across open ground, with the fjord and the icecap on the horizon.

Day two: hunting the king of sea ducks

From the harbour we take an enclosed boat into Nuuk Fjord, where king eider raft up through the winter. This is sea-duck hunting at its most authentic, cold air, dark water, and a bird most hunters never get within range of.

Days three and four: the high country

Two full days on the snowbound tundra around the fjord, working ridges and willow benches for rock ptarmigan in the morning, then traversing open snow slopes for arctic hare in the afternoon light.

These are the days that round the Arctic Four out, small game in big country, with white birds and white hares against white ground. Spot, stalk, and steady shooting in cold, clean air.

Farewell to the fjord

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Nuuk Airport for your return flight. You'll leave with four very different trophies, four very different memories, reindeer, king eider, rock ptarmigan and arctic hare, and a winter in Greenland behind you.

A fully guided winter hunt

The Arctic Four covers four winter species over four hunting days around Nuuk: reindeer in the inland valleys, king eider on the fjord ice, rock ptarmigan in the snowbound mountains, and arctic hare on the open tundra. Local guides know how each animal moves in winter and shape the days around the weather and the conditions.

Transport shifts with the terrain, enclosed boat for the fjord days and snowmobile or foot for the inland days, with hotel nights back in Nuuk between days. Which species you work on a given day depends on what the conditions allow, so the plan stays flexible.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about this tour — from key details to what you can expect during the experience. If you can’t find your answer here, we’re always here to help.

What makes Greenland such a great destination for deep-sea fishing?

Greenland offers some of the richest, most untouched fishing waters in the world. The combination of cold, nutrient-rich currents and minimal commercial fishing pressure means these waters are full of life. The sheer variety of species—halibut, redfish, cod, and wolffish—ensures an exciting and unpredictable fishing experience. Plus, the remote Arctic scenery makes every moment on the water unforgettable.

Do I need prior deep-sea fishing experience to join this expedition?

You don’t need prior experience at all!. This expedition is designed for both seasoned anglers and those new to deep-sea fishing. Our expert guides will teach you everything you need to know, from handling the gear to fighting some of the Arctic’s strongest fish. Whether you’re here to land your first big catch or to challenge yourself against Greenland’s deep-sea giants, this trip is for you.

Will I be fishing in both fjords and the open sea?

All fishing takes place in the fjords close to Nuuk. These deep, nutrient-rich waters offer excellent fishing for halibut, cod, redfish, and wolffish without the challenges of open-sea conditions. The fjords provide a stunning, sheltered environment with breathtaking Arctic scenery while still offering the chance to catch some of Greenland’s biggest fish.

Can I keep the fish I catch?

Mostly, we practice catch and release to help maintain the health of Greenland’s fish populations. We never bring home more than we can eat. If you’d like to keep some of the fish for a fresh meal, we have arrangements with the hotel restaurant. Bring your fresh catch back to Nuuk, and th chef will prepare it for you.

Is all the fishing gear provided, or should I bring my own?

All top-tier fishing gear is provided, including quality rods, reels, and tackle specifically suited for catching halibut, cod, redfish, and wolffish. You’re welcome to bring your own equipment if you have a preferred setup, but it’s not necessary—we ensure you have everything you need for a successful trip.

Is this expedition available year-round?

Yes! This tour runs almost all year because Greenland’s waters are teeming with fish in every season. Whether it’s summer or winter, there’s always a good chance of reeling in an Arctic catch. However, weather and ice conditions can sometimes affect availability, especially in the coldest months.

Contact us to check availability for your preferred dates and explore the best fishing opportunities for each season.

What should I pack for a deep sea fishing trip?

Greenland’s weather can change rapidly, so dressing properly is key. We recommend bringing:

  • A waterproof and windproof jacket
  • Warm, layered clothing (wool or fleece works best)
  • Insulated gloves and a hat
  • Sturdy, waterproof boots with good grip
  • Sunglasses to reduce glare from the water
  • A small backpack for personal items
  • Motion sickness tablets if you’re prone to seasickness

All fishing equipment is provided, but if you have a lucky lure or a favorite reel, feel free to bring it along.

What does a typical day on this deep sea fishing trip look like?

Mornings start with a hearty breakfast in Nuuk before heading to the boat. After a safety briefing and gear setup, we set out into Greenland’s vast waters, heading to prime fishing locations based on conditions. Once lines are in the water, the action begins—whether it’s the slow, steady pull of a halibut from the depths or the sudden strike of a cod.

After hours of fishing, we take a break for lunch on board, enjoying the Arctic scenery. The afternoon brings more fishing as we change spots and target different species. By evening, we return to Nuuk, where you can relax, share stories, and enjoy a well-earned dinner before the next day’s adventure.

How physically demanding is deep-sea fishing in Greenland?

This trip requires moderate physical effort, but nothing extreme. While reeling in a large halibut or wolffish can be a serious workout, much of the fishing is done from the boat, so no heavy lifting or trekking is required. If you can stand and hold a rod for extended periods, you’ll do just fine. Our guides are there to assist, making sure every angler is comfortable throughout the trip.
