"I was on a trip with Raw Arctic back in January. To this day, I still remember the ptarmigan hunt as one of my best hunting experiences. What made the trip particularly special was that I had a private guide with me. Malinnguaq made sure I felt safe both in nature and during the hunt. He taught me everything from how to aim to how to handle the ptarmigan afterwards, in addition he also kept spirits high with his positive energy and determination, even during the windy and rainy weather we had!"

A fully guided wilderness hunt

This hunt is built around three days in a remote camp deep in Nuuk Fjord, tracking reindeer on foot across tundra, ridges, and lake country. Local guides lead the way and know where the herd tends to move with the season and the weather.

The camp is simple, with no power and no fixed schedule, and enclosed boat transfers carry you between Nuuk and camp. What each day looks like depends on the weather and where the animals are, so the plan stays flexible.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about this tour — from key details to what you can expect during the experience. If you can’t find your answer here, we’re always here to help.

What makes reindeer hunting in Nuuk fjord unique?

Reindeer hunting in Nuuk Fjord is unlike anywhere else. Set in a vast, untouched landscape, the experience combines Greenland’s raw wilderness with traditional, respectful hunting practices. Here, reindeer roam freely through deep valleys, steep mountains, and along the winding fjords - offering a challenging and rewarding pursuit.

Access to the hunting areas is by boat, which adds to the sense of remoteness and adventure. Guided by local experts who know the land intimately, you'll track reindeer using time-honoured methods, blending patience, skill, and deep respect for nature. It’s more than a hunt - it’s a journey into the heart of Greenland’s backcountry.

What species of reindeer do you offer for hunting?

We offer hunts for North American introduced reindeer, a species that has adapted to Greenland’s rugged terrain and harsh Arctic conditions.

How are the reindeer trophies handled?

We ensure professional handling of your trophy. Once the reindeer is harvested, we take care of:

  • Field dressing and skinning
  • Freezing and preservation of the hide and antlers
  • Shipping to our taxidermy partner, First Class Trophy in Denmark

Once your trophy arrives in Denmark, First Class Trophy will contact you directly for further processing and taxidermy services.

Why 3 hunting days?

Our itinerary is designed to align with U.S. flight schedules, ensuring that our hunters spend the optimal amount of time in Greenland. Neither too short nor too long.

How do we hunt the reindeer?

Each hunt begins from our base camp, located deep in Nuuk Fjord’s pristine wilderness. Depending on the location of the reindeer and conditions that day, we either set out on foot directly from camp or use the boat to access nearby valleys and ridgelines. The boat is a flexible tool - useful when we need to cover more ground or scout from the water - but it's not always necessary.

Once a suitable area is identified, the stalk continues on foot. We keep hiking distances manageable, focusing on a comfortable pace and ethical shooting distances. The terrain is typically a mix of gentle tundra, open valleys, and rolling hills - challenging enough to feel like a true backcountry adventure, but accessible for most.

Scouting and patience are key elements of the experience. Whether from a boat or a ridgeline, much of the hunt is spent observing the landscape, reading signs, and waiting for the right opportunity.

What is not included in the reindeer hunting package?

  • Evening restaurant meals in Nuuk
  • Trophy preparation at First Class Trophy (handling and shipping are included, but taxidermy services are not)
  • Personal hunting gear, rifles, and ammunition, although this can be arranged

How physically demanding is the reindeer hunt?

The reindeer hunt in Nuuk Fjord is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for a wide range of physical abilities. The terrain consists mainly of gentle tundra, rolling hills, and open valleys, making it relatively easy to navigate compared to more mountainous regions.

Whenever possible, we use boats to reduce hiking distances and access remote hunting areas efficiently. In many cases, parts of the hunt involve scouting from an open boat, which helps conserve energy and keeps the overall effort manageable.

Most importantly, we tailor the pace and approach of the hunt to each guest's physical condition and comfort level. Whether you’re an experienced backcountry hunter or prefer a slower, more relaxed pace, we adapt the experience to ensure it remains both rewarding and within your limits.

What is included in the reindeer hunting package?

  • 6-day itinerary with 3.5 full hunting days
  • Local guides with extensive knowledge of the land and wildlife
  • Full-service glamping camp with daily prepared meals
  • Traditional tracking methods that embrace Greenlandic hunting traditions
  • Enclosed boat transfers to and from camp
  • Open boat scouting along the fjords to locate reindeer
  • Accommodation at hotel upon departure
  • Handling, freezing, and shipping of trophies for professional taxidermy services

What gear do I need to bring for reindeer hunting?

Greenland’s Arctic conditions require high-quality cold-weather hunting gear. A full packing list will be provided upon booking, but here are some essentials:

  • High-quality rifle with suitable optics (recommended caliber: .308, .30-06, or similar)
  • Ammunition suited for large game
  • Warm, waterproof hunting boots
  • Windproof, insulated hunting clothing (layered system recommended)
  • Gloves, neck gaiter, and hat for cold conditions
  • Sunglasses for glare from ice and water
  • Backpack for carrying gear during the stalk

Can non-hunters join the reindeer expedition?

Yes, non-hunting companions are welcome to join and experience Greenland’s breathtaking landscapes.

How do I get to Greenland for this reindeer hunt?

Most hunters fly into Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, via international connections through America, Iceland or Denmark. We will assist with all travel logistics to ensure a smooth arrival.
